Stockholm once again donned its finest to host the 2025 Nobel Prize ceremony, an event that blends tradition, splendor, and the subtle theatricality of the Swedish monarchy. The capital’s concert hall was transformed into a haute couture runway, with the Bernadotte family at the heart of a ritual that merges culture, science, and protocol.

The undisputed star of the evening was Crown Princess Victoria, who chose to rescue from her mother Queen Silvia’s wardrobe a gown that had dazzled thirty-one years ago, at the 1994 edition of the event. The piece, designed by Jacques Zehnder in pearl gray, featured an architectural cut, a strapless neckline, and a voluminous skirt with layered black silk that peeked out delicately. To give the dress prominence, Victoria placed the blue sash of the Order of the Seraphim inside, creating a visual effect that divided the gown in two, an elegant nod to family tradition.

The princess crowned her ensemble with the Baden Fringe tiara, a historic piece composed of 47 diamonds evoking sun rays. This jewel, passed down through generations of the Bernadotte family and now a symbol of the heir, has been worn on over thirty-five occasions, cementing its status as one of European royalty’s iconic treasures. Princess Madeleine of Sweden also shone in a silver gown with overlaid tulle and exquisite jewelry, including the Kokoshnik aquamarine diadem, completing a trio of tiaras that underscored the evening’s glamour.

The ceremony was not without controversy: Princess Sofia, wife of Prince Carl Philip, was officially absent for family reasons. Her absence coincided with the recent release of records linking her to Jeffrey Epstein, a matter the Royal Court addressed discreetly, noting only that the princess was caring for her ten-month-old daughter. Nevertheless, protocol and solemnity remained intact.

The cultural program of Nobel Week included moments of significant artistic importance. Notably, Spanish violinist María Dueñas, 23, made history as the first Spaniard to perform at the prestigious Nobel Concert. Accompanied by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and under the baton of conductor Semyon Bychkov, Dueñas performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, captivating Kings Carl Gustaf and Silvia, as well as all attendees, who gave a standing ovation.

The 2025 Nobel ceremony in Stockholm, marked by luxury, tradition, and an intergenerational nod to royalty, reinforced Victoria’s image as an heir who combines respect for history with contemporary sensitivity. Between recycled gowns, century-old jewels, and sublime music, the princess solidified her role as a benchmark of elegance and protocol, able to turn every appearance into an unforgettable moment, while the Bernadotte family skillfully balanced splendor and discretion amid a scandal that threatened to overshadow the night.
