NETFLIX RELEASES THE SECOND SEASON OF “NOBODY WANTS THIS” AND SPARKS SPECULATION ABOUT A THIRD
The unlikely love of Joanne and Noah returns to Netflix “Nobody Wants This” explores humor, tension, and emotions in its second season
The romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This” returned this month with its second season on Netflix, generating significant anticipation among fans and fueling rumors about a possible third installment. The series, partially based on the life of its creator Erin Foster and her husband Simon Tikhman, follows the relationship between Joanne, an agnostic podcaster, and Noah, a rabbi, exploring the challenges of an interfaith romance.
The second season picks up exactly where the first left off, with Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) trying to merge their lives, families, and worldviews while facing tensions stemming from religious differences and professional decisions. Central conflicts include Noah’s rejection for the position of head rabbi at his temple and Joanne’s hesitation about converting.
In addition to Bell and Brody, the season introduces new cast members, including Leighton Meester, known for her role as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl and Brody’s real-life wife, who plays Abby, an influencer and former school rival of Joanne. Other cast members include Justine Lupe as Morgan, Joanne’s sister; Timothy Simons as Sasha, Noah’s brother; Jackie Tohn as Esther, Sasha’s wife; Tovah Feldshuh as Bina; Sherry Cola as Ashley; D’Arcy Carden as Ryann; and Alex Karpovsky as Big Noah. Seth Rogen also joins as Rabbi Neil, offering Noah an alternative career opportunity.
The series has been praised for its mix of humor, complex characters, and bold take on dating across religious boundaries. The first season received critical acclaim and earned nominations and awards from the Emmys, Critics Choice, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild. The second season aims to maintain that reception while further exploring previously secondary storylines, such as Bina’s development and Esther’s story.
So far, Netflix has not officially confirmed whether “Nobody Wants This” will have a third season, although Foster has expressed optimism about continuing the series. In recent interviews, the creator emphasized that writing based on personal experience allows her to convey a unique perspective on the conflicts and relationships depicted.
With its blend of romance, humor, and cultural context, “Nobody Wants This” has established itself as a benchmark of contemporary dramedy on the streaming platform, capturing the attention of viewers seeking complex and authentic interpersonal stories.
